The vocabulary is the main key to understand foreign language. Vocabulary is very important because without vocabulary someone can not understand the meaning of foreign language. Objective of this research is to know whether the implementation of poetry give effect toward vocabulary achievement to the eleventh graders at Senior High School 1 Bantarbolang.
This is experimental research. In conducting the research, the researcher uses two group design. Population of this research are the eleventh graders of Senior High School 1 Bantarbolang which is totally 483 students. The reseacher uses cluster random sampling technique to take the sample of the research. The total of the sample are 60 students.
Based on the result of the qualitative analysis, the process of teaching and learning vocabulary through poetry by analyzing the data taken by observation, interview, and questionnaire. The data is tested by using SPSS22. Score of t table at 5% level of significance and on the degree of 30 is 2,042. So, t statistic is higher than t table (7,120>2,042). According to this calculation, null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means, there is effect of the the students’ vocabulary achievement after they are taught by poetry at the second year students at Senior High School 1 Bantarbolang in academic year 2017/2018.
The reseacher can conclude based on the research questions, there are: The first, Using Poetry is effective to teach vocabulary to the eleventh graders of SMA N 1 Bantarbolang. Using Poetry is proven that could improve the students’ vocabulary. The second, There is significant difference in vocabulary achievement between the students who are taught by poetry and the students who are not taught by poetry because the score of experimental group is higher than control group.
