The objective of this Research Project is to find out the effect of using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique on students’ reading narrative text achievement.
The research hypothesis is Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique gives positive effect on students’ reading narrative text achievement. Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition technique is applied to eighth grade students of MTs Daarul Istiqomah Pasir, Pemalang in academic year of 2016 / 2017.
In this Research Project, the population is the eighth grade students of Mts Daarul Istiqomah Pasir. Which is totaly 92 students. The researcher uses cluster random sampling with true group design ( Experiment Group and Control Group). The total sample are 60 students; 30 students as experiment group and 30 students as control group. The experiment group is the group of students who are taught by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique. The control group is the group of students who are taught by using Classical Method ( GTM ). After teaching for eight meetings, the researcher gives a test to experiment group and control group. The instrument of this research project is multiple-choice test which consists of 40 items and research used each items has four options.
The data is analyzed by using t-test, score of t-test is at 5 is 2,699. While score of t-table is at 5% level significance and on the degree of 58 is 1,645. Thus, t-test is higher than t-table (2,699 > 1,645). According to result of data, the null hypothesis (H0) t-test is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) t-table is accepted or the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition technique gives positive effect on students’ reading narrative text achievement.
It can be suggested that the teachers should use a new method or technique in learning English, for example by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique, since it will make the students feel enjoy and interest in learning process, especially in learning Reading narrative text achievement. The teachers are also advised to use Cooperative Integrated Reding and Composition Technique in English teaching and learning process to make effective and fun while learn reading especially for the students of junior high school.
