THE EFFECT OF USING MAGIC BOX MEDIA TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT An Experimental Study at the Fifth Grade Student of MI Muhammadiyah Kertasari in the Academic Year of 2016/2017

The objective of this research is to find out whether using Magic Box gives positive effect to the students’ Vocabulary Achievement of the Fifth Grade Students of MI Muhammadiyah Kertasari in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.
This is an experimental research, the research is done by using two-group design which consists of the experimental group who are taught by using magic box and control group who are not taught by using magic box. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. In the last treatment, the writer gives a post-test to the experimental group and control group to find out whether there is significant difference of students’ vocabulary achievement between the students who are taught by using magic box and the students who are not taught by using magic box by using t-test. The type of the test used is multiple choices with 4 options (A, B, C, or D). The number of the test is 40 items done in 80 minutes. The writer conducts try out test on 30 students who have the same ability with research samples to determine the validity and reliability of the test instrument. Data analysis of this research is tested by using independent sample t-test. The result of computing t-test value is 5.263. Based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level of 5% t-table is 1,672, it shows that t-test is higher than t-table (5.263>1,672). It means that there is significant difference of the vocabulary achievement between the students who are taught by using Magic Box and the students who are taught without using Magic Box.
The conclusion of this research is the use of Magic Box gives positive effect on the students’ vocabulary achievement at the fifth grade students of MI Muhammadiyah Kertasari in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. Based on the students' achievement using Magic Box in achieving vocabulary ability, it is suggested for English teachers to apply Magic Box as one of many alternatives that can be used in teaching vocabulary.
