The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using sequence picture technique on the students’ reading achievement. Sequence picture is one of media which can be used in teaching reading.
The research hypothesis is sequence picture technique gives positive effect toward students’ reading achievement. Sequence picture is applied to teach the eight grade of State Junior High School 3 Talang in the Academic Year of
2016/2017.
In this research, the population is State Junior High School 3 Talang in the Academic Year of 2016/2017 which is 289 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to take the sample of the research. The total number of sample is 60 students and they are divided into two classes, first is experimental class that consists of students who are taught by using sequence picture and second is control class that consists of students who are taught without using sequence picture. After teaching for eight meetings, the writer gives a test to experimental class and control class. The instrument of this research is multiple- choice test which consists of 30 items.
The data is analyzed by using t-test. Based on the result with degree of freedom(df)58 on the level significant of 5% t-table is 1,645. It shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table (2,336>1,645). It means that there is significant difference of reading achievement between students who are taught by using sequence picture and the students who are taught without using sequence picture.
It can be suggested that the teacher should use a new method, media or technique in learning English, for example by using sequence picture, since it will make the students feel enjoy and interested in learning process, especially in learning reading. The teachers are also dvised to use sequence picture in English teaching and learning process to make effective and fun while learn reading especially for the students of Junior High School.
