Cubing strategy is one of collaborative learning technique that is good for improving students writing achievement consider a concept from a variety of different perspectives. The objective of this research project is to find out whether Cubing Strategy gives positive effect in writing descriptive text.
The population of this research is the tenth grade students of Vocational
High School Ma’arif NU Talang in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. The writer
uses cluster random sampling with two group design (experimental and control
group). The number of population is 52 students, 26 students is as experimental
group and 26 students is as control group. The experimental group is the group of
students who are taught by using Cubing Strategy. The control group is the group
of students who are taught without using Cubing Strategy. After teaching seven
meetings, the writer gives a writing test to experiment group and control group.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test in order to find out
whether the research hypothesis is accepted or not. Based on the calculation, the t-
ratio is 2.8542. It is consulted with t-table on the significant level (α) of 5% and
the degree of freedom (df) is 50. The t-table obtained is 1.645. It proves that t-
ratio is higher than t-table (2.8542 > 1.676), so the hypothesis of the research is
accepted.
Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that the students who are taught by using Cubing strategy get better writing achievement than the students who are taught without using Cubing Strategy. Then, the writer proposes some suggestions. First, teacher should apply Cubing strategy in the teaching of writing because it is effective in generating many ideas.. Second, teacher should be give motivations to build the students confident in writing. Third, teacher should give their students more writing assignments and evaluations to make them accustomed in writing.
