THE EFFECT OF USING THINK PAIR SHARE (TPS) ON THE VOCABULARY ACHIVEMENT OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL (An Experimental Research in Junior High School of Dharma Bakti Slawi in Academic Year 2016/2017)

The objective of this research is to know whether there is any significant difference between the students who are taught by using Think Pair Share and those who are not taught by using Think Pair Share on The Vocabulary Achivement of The Eighth Grade Students of Secondary School at Junior High School of Dharma Bakti Slawi in Academic Year 2016/2017.
This is an experimental research which has two group design; an experiment group and control group. An experiment group is a group of students who are taught by using TPS and a control group is a group of students who are not taught by using Think Pair Share. The population of the research is the eighth grade students of Junior High School of Dharma Bakti Slawi that consists of 3 classes. Class A consists of 30 students, class B consists of 30 students, and class C consist of 30 students, So the number of population is 90 students. To collect the data, the writer takes 40 students from the population as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. Each group consists of 20 students. Then both of them are given the same test.
The writer uses a test as the instrument of the research form of the test is multiple choices and essay. The multiple choices test consists of 45 items which has four options and the essay test consist 5 items. The students do the test in 60 minutes. To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer are tried out the instrument by giving the test to 20 students who have the same competence with the sample of this research. The data of this research is gained from the written test that give to the sample of this research. To analyze the data, the writer use t-test to know the difference between the two groups.
Based on the data analysis, t-ratio is 4,795 with the degree of freedom (df) 48 and the level of significance (α) 5% and the t-table is 2,024. It means that t-ratio is higher than t-table (4,795 > 2,024). It means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the students who are taught by using Think Pair Share type and the students who are not taught by using Think Pair Share.
The conclusion of this research is the using of Think Pair Share (TPS) Method is given positive effect towards Vocabulary Achivement of The Eighth Grade Students of Secondary School at Junior High School of Dharma Bakti Slawi in Academic Year 2016/2017.
