THE EFFECT OF COOPERATIVE SCRIPT METHOD ON STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY (An Experimental Research to the Eighth Graders of MTs Negeri Slawi in the Academic Year of 2016/2017)

Reading is an activity to comprehend some information in written language, by reading someone can learn something which has not known before. By reading we can understand the text which the readers have to evolve their knowledge to build meaning from the text. It is very important to add knowledge and to get information for success in all educational. The aim of the research is to find out whether cooperative script effective to teach reading to the Eight graders of MTs N Slawi.
This is an experimental research conducted at the Eighth grade of MTs N Slawi in the second semester of academic year 2016/2017. The researcher takes 286 students as population. To get the sample of data, the researcher uses cluster random sampling technique with two groups’ design, namely control group and experimental group to take the sample of the research. The total numbers of sample are 60 students. There are 30 students as an experimental group and 30 students as a control group in this research. The experimental group is a group of the students which teach using cooperative script method and the control group is a group of the students which is not teach using cooperative script method. The number of the test is 40 items done in 80 minutes. The writer conducts try out test on 30 students who have the same ability with research samples to determine the validity and reliability of the test instrument. The data of this research is collected through pre-test and post-test.
The collected data is analyzed through SPSS 22.00 Windows Version of paired sample t-test and independents sample t-test in order to test the hypotheses of this research project. Based on data analysis, it is stated that the result of Sig. 2 tailed was lower than α (0.005<0.05). The statement means the null hypothesis (H02) was refused and the alternative hypothesis (Ha2) was accepted.
The conclusion of this research that there is significant difference between students who are taught by using Cooperative Script Method and students who are not taught by using Cooperative Script Method. After doing the research, the writer has some suggestions. Teacher should apply cooperative script method in teaching of reading and teacher should be give motivations to build the students confident and makes students easy to transfer what in students’ mind and they can improve their creativity in reading.
