There are several problems in learning vocabulary. The problem are the students felt that learned English was difficult and was bored, they difficult to understand the meaning of a text because they had lack of vocabulary, they usually chat with their friends so did not pay attention to their teacher when the teacher explains the material. The teaching process is boring because the traditional method given by the teacher.Therefore the writer chooses oral approach method.
The objective of this research is to find out whether the use oral approach method is effective to teach vocabulary achievement and to find out there is a significant difference between the students who are taught by using oral approach method and who are taught without using oral approach method on student vocabulary in descriptive text at SMP N 12 Tegal in academic year 2016/2017.
In this research, the population is seventh grade students in SMP N 12 Tegal, which is totally 210 students. The writer used cluster random sampling and took 2 classes as a sample, each class consist of 30 students. In this research is experimental research. The writer used two group design. The first group is A class as the experimental group and the second group is B class as the control group.
The result proved that t-test is higher than t-table with 5% significant level (4.551 > 1.699). It means that oral approach effective to teach vocabulary achievement to the seventh-grade od SMP N 12 Tegal. Then, based on the calculation of means in both groups, it proved that the result of t-test was higher than t-table with 5% significant level (2.126 > 1.671).
It can be concluded that oral approach is effective to teach vocabulary achievement to seventh grade student and there is a significant difference between the students who are taught by using oral approach method and who are taught without using oral approach method on student vocabulary in descriptive in teaching vocabulary achievement in descriptive text at seventh grade SMP N 12 Tegal in academic year 2016/2017.
