The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using RIDER Strategy On students’ reading comprehension. The hypothesis of this research are, as follows : H_I: there is positive effect of using RIDER Strategy on students’ reading comprehension achievement of the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 1 Tegal in Academic Year 2016/2017 and H_0: there is no positive effect of using RIDER Strategy on students’ reading comprehension achievement of the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 1 Tegal in Academic Year 2016/2017. The research is done by classifying sample into two groups, they are the Experiment and Control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. They are divided into two groups. Group one is experiment group consisting of students who are taught by using RIDER Strategy and group two is control group consisting of students who are taught without using RIDER Strategy.
The sample is given a test containing 40 Multiple Choice items. The writer uses internal validity and split half method Sperman-Brown formula to know the validity and reliability of the instrument. The writer gives a try out for students having the same competence with the sample.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using independent sample t-test. the result of computing t-test value is 4.795. Based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level significant of 5% t-table is 1,645, it shows that t-test is higher than t-table (4.795>1,645). It means that there is significant difference of the reading comprehension between the students who are taught by using RIDER Strategy and the students who are taught without using RIDER Strategy.
The conclusion of this research is the use of RIDER Strategy gives positive effect on the students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 1 Tegal in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.
