The objective of the research is to find out whether using series of picture media gives positive effect towards students’ achievement in writing narrative text.
Based on the theoretical background and logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is “There is significant difference between the students who are taught writing narrative text by using Series of Picture Media than the students who are not taught by using Series of Picture Media of the eighth grade student of MTs Negeri Petarukan in academic year 2016/2017. In other words, the students who are taught by using Series of Picture Media have better writing achievement than students who are taught without using Series of Picture Media. In the students’ evaluation achievement, the researcher uses post test. The data is enumerated by using T-test formula.
The population of this research is the eighth grade students at MTs Negeri Petarukan in academic year 2016/2017. The number of population is 343 students. The researcher uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The number of sample is 70 students. The sample consists of two groups; each group consists of 35 students. Group I is experimental group, it consists of the students who are taught by using Series of Picture Media while group II is control group that consists of the students who are not taught by using Series of Picture Media.
The research instrument used in this research is written text. To know the validity and the reliability of the instrument, the researcher tests the instrument by giving post test to 35 students as try-out group.
The data is analysed by using t-test formula. It shows that t-test result is 5,662 with degree of freedom: 68 and the level of significance (α) 5% t-table = 1,645. it is absolutely said that t-test is higher than t-table (5,662>1,645), because of the t-test is higher than t-table, so that hypothesis of the research is accepted.
From the result of data analysis, the researcher can conclude that the use of Series of Picture Media gives positive effect in teaching writing narrative text to the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri Petarukan in Academic Year 2016/2017.
