The objective of this research is to find out the positive effect of using Tea Party Strategy to students’ reading comprehension to tenth grade of SMK Negeri 1 Tegal in the academic year of 2016/2017. Tea Party Strategy is a strategy that can improve students’ understanding of story before they reads. The strategy is able to help students activate their background knowledge, anticipate what they will read, make predictions before they read, and make connections to information they already know. The research hypothesis is the use of Tea Party strategy gives positive toward students’ reading comprehension. In this research, the population is all of tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Tegal, which is totally 336 students. The writer takes 60 students as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer devides the sample into two classes. There are 30 students in experimental class who are taught by using Tea Party Strategy, and 30 students in control class who are not taught by using Tea Party Strategy. The writer uses reading test in form of multiple choices with options (A, B, C, and D) as the instrument of the research. The writer conducts the try-out test to 30 tenth grade students out of samples which have similar qualification and capability with the sample in order to know the validity and reliability of the instrument. The data analysis is calculated by using t-test formula. Based on the measurement of t-test, the value of t-test is 5,607. At the level of significant 5 % and degree of freedom (df) 58, the t-table is 1,671. It shows that the t-test is higher than t-table (5,607 > 1,671). It means the null hypothesis (H_0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H_a) is accepted. The writer concludes that the use of Tea Party Strategy gives positive effect toward students’ reading comprehension to tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Tegal in the academic year of 2016/2017. Based on the result of the research, the teachers are advised to use Tea Party Strategy in English teaching and learning process in order to improve the students’ reading comprehension.
