Peer Editing is a process of learning that students are involed to give their responds or feedback to the partner. The objective of this research is to find out whether Peer Editing Strategy is effective to use in teaching of writing for eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Kramat in the second semester of the academic year of 2016/2017. The sample of this research is 64 students, it consists of 32 students as the experimental group and 32 students as the control group.. This research is experimental research. The samples are taken by using the cluster random sampling. The instrument that is used in this research is making a simple narrative test by choosing some titles. The instrument is validated by the experts (face validity), syllabus (content validity) and lesson plan (construct validity). The reabiable of the instrument is assessed through Brown’s writing scoring rubric. The data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test in order to find out whether the research hypothesis is accepted or not.
Based on the calculation, the t-ratio is 3,13. It is consulted with t-table on the significant level (α) of 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 62. The t-table obtained is 1,99897. It proves that t-ratio is higher than t-table (3,13>1,99897), so the hypothesis of the research is accepted. The conclusion of this research is that students who are taught by using Peer Editing strategy get better writing achievement than students who are not taught by using Peer Editing strategy. Peer Editing Strategy is proven to be one of the effective strategy to make students interested in learning writing. It prevents the students from getting bored. English teachers are suggested to apply Peer Editing strategy in the teaching of writing. They should also motivate their students to work as a team to make learning writing more enjoyable. Furthermore, they should give their students more writing assignments and evaluations to make them accustomed to writing.
