The Effect of Using Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) Strategy on
Reading Achievement of The Seventh Grade of Junior High School (An
experimental Research in SMP Negeri 1 Kramat in Academic year 2016/2017).
The population this research, the population is all of seventh grade students in SMP Negeri Kramat. The total of population is 287 students in 9 classes. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique in taking the sample of the research. The total of sample is 60 students, 30 students are as experimental group and 30 students are as control group. The experimental group is the group of students who are taught by using DRTA strategy. The control group is the group of students who are taught without using DRTA strategy.
This research is experimental research that involves two variables, they are the DRTA strategy and the students’ reading achievement. The function of this research is to see whether the DRTA strategy can influence students’ achievement on reading lesson.
The research instrument that used in this research is multiple choices that
consist of 40 questions. To measure the validity and the ratability of the test, the
writer tries out the instrument to the try out group which consist of 50 questions.
The data is analyzed by using t-test formula. It shows that t-test result is 24,89 with degree freedom 58. It shows that t-test is higher that t-table, hypothesis of this research is hen accepted.
The conclusion of this research is the use of DRTA strategy gives positive effect on the students’ reading skills at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kramat in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. The writer suggests for the teachers to use DRTA strategy to improve students reading skills.
