THE EFFECT OF PHOTOGRAPH ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (AnExperimental Research on the Eleventh Grade Students of MA Asy-syafi’iyyah Jatibarang in the Academic Year of 2016/2017)

The reason why the writer chooses this research because the teachers are still using the traditional method to teach English especially in vocabulary skill. Thus, it makes them fell bored in learning vocabulary. Then, many students cannot achieve the vocabulary skill well because they cannot understand the meaning. Therefore, the writer needs to apply appropriate technique to teach vocabulary achievement, namely Photograph technique.
The objectives of this research project are to find out whether the use photograph technique is effective to teach vocabulary achievement and to find out there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using photograph technique and who are not taught by photograph technique on students’ vocabulary achievement to the eleventh grade students of senior high school at MA Asy-syafi’iyyah Jatibarang in the academic year 2016/2017.
In the sample of this research, the writer took 2 classes or 48 students of eleventh graders in MA Asy-syafi’iyyah Jatibarang. There are 24 student as the experimental group and 24 student as the control group. The writer was used total sampling to take the samples in this research. This research used true experimental research which two group design.
The result proved that t-test is higher than t-table with 5% significant level (16,338 > 1, 714). It means that photographis effective to teach vocabulary achievementto the eleventh graders of MA Asy-syafi’iyyah Jatibarang. Then, based on the calculation of means in both groups, it proved that the result of t-test was higher than t-table with 5% significant level (5,152 > 2,013). It means that there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using photograph technique and students who are not taught by using photograph technique on vocabulary achievement.The finding showed that the use of photograph technique is effective and there is significant difference in teaching vocabulary achievement to the eleventh graders of MA Asy-syafi’iyyah Jatibarang in the academic year 2016/2017.
