THE EFFECT OF TEAM WORD WEBBING TECHNIQUE ON READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study to the Eighth Graders of SMP N 14 Tegal in the Academic Year 2016/2017)

The reason why the writer chooses this research because the teachers are still using the traditional method to teach English especially in reading skill. Thus, it makes they fell bored in learning reading. Then, many students cannot achieve the reading skill well because they cannot understand the meaning and content of the text. Therefore, the writer needs to apply appropriate technique to teach reading comprehension achievement, namely Team Word-Webbing technique.
The objectives of this research project are to find out whether implementing TWW technique is effective to teach reading comprehension achievement and to find out there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using TWW technique and who are not taught by TWW technique on students’ reading comprehension to the eighth graders of junior high school at SMP N 14 Tegal in the academic year 2016/2017.
In the sample of this research, the writer took 2 classes or 64 students of eighth graders in SMP N 14 Tegal. 32 students from VIII D class and 32 students from VIII C class. The writer was used cluster random sampling to take the samples in this research. This research used true experimental research which the design is two group design. VIII D class as experiment class VIII C class as control class. The writer used SPSS 22 to analyzed the data in this research.
The result proved that t-test is higher than t-table with 5% significant level (6.603 > 2.040). It means that TWW is effective to teach reading comprehension achievement to the eight graders of SMP N 14 Tegal. Then, based on the calculation of means in both groups, it proved that the result of t-test was higher than t-table with 5% significant level (5.786 > 1.999). It means that there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using TWW technique and students who are not taught by using TWW technique on reading comprehension achievement.
Based on the explanation above, the writer concluded that the use of TWW technique is effective and there is significant difference in teaching reading comprehension achievement to the eighth graders of SMP N 14 Tegal in the academic year 2016/2017.
