Keywords: FVS, Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy,Teaching reading for Seventh
Grade Students of Secondary School.
The objective of this Research Project is to find out the fffect of using FVS (Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy) onthe students’ reading achievement. Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy is one of instructional learning strategy that is good to improve students’ reading ability by activating students prior knowledge before reading.
Based on the theoretical framework, the hypothesis of this research is “using FVS (Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy) gives positive effect on the reading achievement of the seventh grade students of secondary school”.
The population of this research is all of seventh grade students of State Junior High School 3 Taman, which is totally 327 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique with two groups design (experiment group and control group). The total of sample is 60 students, 30 students is as experiment group and 30 students is as control group. The experiment group is the group of students who are taught by using Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy. The control group is the group of students who are taught without using Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy. After teaching for several meetings, the writer gives a reading test in multiple choice form, to experiment group and control group.
The data is analyzed by using t-test formula. It shows that t-test result is 3,030, the writer consults to t-table with the level of significant 5% and degree of freedom (df) 58. The writer finds that t-table is 1,672. It proves that the result of t-test is higher than t-table (3,030 > 1,672), because the result of the t-test is higher than t-table so the hypothesis of the research is accepted. It means that is positive effect of using FVS (Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy) on the student’s reading achievement at the seventh grade students of State Junior High School 3 Taman. According to the analysis, Frontloading Vocabulary Strategy gives positive effect on students’ reading achievement. Then, the writer suggestsFrontloading Vocabulary Strategy can be implemented to improve students’ reading achievement.
