Brainstorming technique is a learning technique done in the form of a group to gather ideas, opinions, information, knowledge, experience from all participants. The purpose of this study is to determine whether using the Brainstorming technique had a positive effect on the students 'writing achievement in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 02 Ampelgading, and to know the significant differences between students' writing achievement between students taught by Brainstorming technique and those who where not taught by using Brainstorming technique in the seventh grade at SMP Negeri 02 Ampelgading. In this research, the writer used two classes of the seventh classes in SMP Negeri 02 Ampelgading. The sample was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The two classes contained 68 students. It means in each class there were 34 students. And the writer used quantitative approach in the type of experimental research. In designing study, the writer used Two-Group Design which consisted of two classes, the first was the experimental and the second was the control group. Data analysis of this research was tested by using t-test in order to find out whether the research hypothesis was accepted or not. To analyze the data, the writer used t-test formula to know the difference of writing skill of the two groups. Based on the result of the data analysis t-test is 2,663, whereas t-table is 1,677 at the significant level of 5% and degree of freedom (df) 86. So, t-test is higher than t-table (2,663>1,677). Because the result of t-test is higher than t-table, so the hypothesis of the research is accepted. It could be concluded that there is positive effect of using Brainstorming technique on writing achievement of the seventhh grade students of SMP Negeri 02 Ampelgading. There are several suggestions for improving students' writing skills. First, the teacher should consider the degree of difficulty of the material and background of the student's knowledge. Second, teachers should design classroom activities. Third, teachers need more creativity to build student interest in learning, especially in writing skills.
