THE EFFECT OF USING ETR (EXPERIENCE-TEXT-RELATIONSHIP) METHOD TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN RECOUNT TEXT (An Experimental Research of the Eight Grade Students of Bantarbolang Islamic Junior High School in Academic Year of 2016/2017)

The objectives of this thesis are to explain the implementation of ETR method of the students’ reading comprehension achievement, and find out whether there is positive effect on students reading comprehension achievement after they are taught by ETR method. ETR method can make students know new knowledge in learning reading and it can help the teacher in learning process.
Based on the related theories, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: there is positive effect on the students’ reading comprehension achievement of the second grade students of Bantarbolang Islamic Junior High School in the Academic Year 2016/2017 after they are taught by ETR method. This research is experimental and used two-group design. The population in this research is 138 students of the eight grade of Bantarbolang Islamic Junior High School. The researcher uses cluster random sampling as the technique to get the sample and take 60 students as the sample in this research; 30 students of the experimental group and 30 students of the control group.
In this research, the researcher uses post test, it is used to know the positive effect of using ETR method toward students’ reading comprehension achievement.
The data shows score of t table at 5% level of significance and on the degree freedom of 58 is 1,672. While t ratio is 3,550 , so t ratio is higher than t table (3,550>1,672). According to the calculation, hypothesis null (Ho) is refused and hypothesis alternative (Hı) is accepted. It means that there is a positive effect on the students’ reading comprehension achievement after they are taught by ETR method of the eight grade students in Bantarbolang Islamic Junior High School in the Academic Year 2016/2017.
