THE EFFECT OF USING COVER, COPY, COMPARE METHOD TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research at the Fifth Grade Students of SDN 02 Lebeteng of Tegal Regency in the Academic Year of 2016/2017)

Cover Copy Compare (CCC) is an academic intervention that can be used in some subjects that require memorization of content. The objective of this research is to know whether there is any positive effect of Cover Copy Compare Method (CCC) on students’ vocabulary achievement at the fifth grade students of SD N 02 in academic year of 2016/2017.
The hypothesis of the research is there is positive effect of using Cover Copy Compare Method on students’ vocabulary achievement. The CCC is applied to the fifth grade students of SD N 02 Lebeteng in academic year of 2016/2017.
In this research, the population is all of students in SD N 02 Lebeteng, which totally 134 students. To collect the data, the writer took 24 students from the population as the sample by using random sampling technique. The writer used one-group design. First, the writer gave the students a pre-test, then gave the treatmen by applying CCC method. After teaching for six meetings, the writer gave post test.
The writer used a multiple-choice test as the instrument of the research. The multiple-choice test consists of 40 items, which has four options. The students did the test in 60 minutes. To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer tried out the instrument by giving the test to 23 students who have the same competence with the sample of this research.
The writer analysis the data by using t-test, the value of the t-test is 4,652. While the value of t-table at 5% level significance with the degree of freedom (df) = 46 is 1,684. Thus, t-test value is higher than t-table value (4,635 > 1,684). It can be concluded that the hypothesis of the research is accepted. It means that Cover Copy Compare Method gives positive effect on students’ vocabulary achievement at the fifth grade students of SD N 02 Lebeteng in the academic year of 2016/2017. Based on the result of the students’ vocabulary achievement, it is suggested for the English teachers to apply CCC method as one of many effective methods that can be used in teaching vocabulary.
