THE EFFECT OF APPLYING FRAMING ROUTINE STRATEGY ON READING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE FIRST GRADE STUDENTS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Study in Senior High School 4 Tegal in Academic Year of 2016/2017)

The objectives of this research is to find out whether Framing Routine Strategy is effective to use in teaching reading towards first grade students of Senior High School 4 Tegal in academic Year 2016/ 2017.
The population of this research is the first grade students of Senior High School 4 Tegal consisting of 283 students. The writer takes sample by using cluster random sampling. There are 9 classes in Senior High School 4 Tegal. The writer takes 2 of 9 classes as a sample. The first group is experimental group and the second is control group. Experimental group consists of 30 students which applies framing routine strategy, and the control group consists of 30 students which does not apply the framing routine strategy.
The research instrument in this research is multiple choices that consists of 8 text with 40 questions. Each of text contains of 4 until 5 questions and the time allocation is 90 minutes. Before the instrument is used to test the sample of the research, the instrument has been tested to another classes (non-sample) which has the same level with sample class. It aims to know the validity and reliability of the instrument.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test in order to find out whether the research hypothesis is accepted or not. Based on the calculation, the t-ratio is 2, 045. It is consulted with t-table on the significant level (α) of 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 58. The t-table obtained is 1.671. It proves that t-ratio is higher than t-table (2, 045 > 1.671), so the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
Based on the result of data analysis, we can conclude that framing routine strategy gives positive effect to the students reading achievement of the first grade students of Senior High School 4 tegal in academic year 2016/ 2017. In applying framing routine strategy, students have more idea to find out and organize the information that they gain from the text. Therefore, it is recommended for the teacher to apply framing routine strategy to english learning process. This strategy is appropriate for intermediet or higher level, especially for Senior High School.
