THE EFFECT OF USING JEOPARDY GAME ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY ( An Experimental Study at The Tenth Grade Students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School Tegal in the Academic Year of 2016/2017 )

The objective of this research is to know whether there is any positive effect of using Jeopardy game on the students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School Tegal in Academic year 2016/2017.
The research hypothesis is the using of Jeopardy Game gives the positive effect on students’ vocabulary mastery to the tenth grade students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School in the academic year 2016/2017.
This research is an experimental research which uses two group design. Population of this research is all of the tenth grade students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School which is totally 63 students. The cluster random sampling technique is used to take the sample which consists of 42 students that are devided into two groups. Group I is experimental group consists of 21 students taught by using Jeopardy Game and group II is control group consists of 21 students taught without using Jeopardy Game.
In this research, the writer uses vocabulary test of multiple choices as the instrument of the research which consists of 30 items. The writer uses pre-test and post-test (vocabulary test) to collect the data. The data is obtained through the result of the pre-test and post-test as comparison. The witer gives pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control group. Before giving the treatment, the writer gave a try out to the class out of sample to test the validity and reliability of instrument.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. Based on the result of the data analysis, t-ratio is 2,239 with the degree of freedom (df) = (n1+n2) – 2 = (21+21) – 2 = 40. On the level significance 5%, it is found that t-table is 1,684. It means that t-ratio is higher than t-table (2,239 > 1,684). It can be concluded that hypothesis of the research is accepted. It means that the Jeopardy Games gives positive effect on students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School in Academic Year 2016 – 2017. Based on the findings the writer suggests that teacher should use Jeopardy game, it because makes students enjoy in the learning process especially in learning vocabulary.
