The objective of this Research Project is to find out the effect of using Picture on the students writing descriptive text ability.
The research hypothesis is Picture gives positive effect toward students Writing ability. Picture is applied to the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Bulakamba in Academic Year of 2016/2017.
In this Research Project, the population is the eight grade students in State Junior High School 1 Bulakamba. Which is totaly 268 students. The researcher uses cluster random sampling with two group design (Experiment Group and Control Group). The total sample are 64 students; 32 students as experiment group and 32 students as control group. The experiment group is the group of students who are taught by using picture. The control group is the group of students who are taught by using conventional teaching. After teaching for eight meetings, the researcher gives a test to experiment group and control group. The instrument of this research project is writing essay.
The researcher analyzed data by using t-test, score of t-test is 3,027. While score of t-table is at 5% level significance and on the degree of 62 is 1,645. Thus, t-test is higher than t-table (3,027 > 1,645). According to result of data, hypothesis t-test is rejected, and hypothesis t-table is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is a positive effect towards writing abilty descriptive text to the students who are taught by using picture than the students who are taught by using conventional teaching. According to the analysis, Picture gives positive effect towards students writing descriptive text ability at the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 BULAKAMBA. Then, the researcher suggest to the English teachers use picture to teaching writing descriptive text ability of the students.
