THE EFFECT OF APPLYING ABC GRAFFITI STRATEGY ON READING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL (An Experimental Research in SMP N 2 Belik in Academic Year 2016/2017)

The objective of this Research Project is to find out whether using ABC Graffiti strategy gives positive effect on students’ reading achievement. ABC Graffiti is one of strategy which used in teaching reading. The research hypothesis is ABC Graffiti Strategy gives positive effect on students reading achievement. ABC Graffiti Strategy is applied to the eight grade students of SMP N 2 Belik in Academic Year 2016/2017.
The population is the eighth grade students in SMP N 2 Belik, which is totaly 241 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling with two group design (Experiment Group and Control Group). The total samples is 60 students; 30 students as experiment group and 30 students as control group. The experiment group is the group of students who are taught by using ABC Graffiti Strategy. The control group is the group of students who are taught by using conventional Strategy. After teaching for eight meetings, the writer gives a test to experiment group and control group. The instrument of this research project is multiple-choice test which consists of 40 items and research used each items has four options.
The writer analyzed data by using t-test, score of t-test is 3,812. While score of t-table is at 5% level significance and on the degree of 58 is 2,001. Thus, t-test is higher than t-table (3,812>2,001). According to result of data, hypothesis t-test is rejected, and hypothesis t-table is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is there is positive effect on students’ reading achievement to the students who are taught by using ABC Graffiti Strategy. Then, the writer suggests to the English teachers use ABC Graffiti Strategy to improve reading achievement of the students.
