THE EFFECT OF USING QUANTUM THINKER MODEL TOWARD THE STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY (An Experimental Research at the Tenth Grade Students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri in Academic Year of 2016/2017)

The objective of this research project is to find out the effect of using Quantum Thinker Model on the students reading ability. Quantum Thinker is one of reading strategy which can be used in teaching reading.
The research hypothesis is Quantum Thinker gives positive effect toward students reading ability. Quantum Thinker is applied to the tenth grade students of MAN Kota Tegal in Academic Year of 2016/2017.
In this research project, the population was the tenth grade students in MAN Kota Tegal, which was totaly 268 students. The researcher used cluster random sampling with two group design (Experiment Group and Control Group). The total sample consisted of 64 students; 32 students as experiment group and 32 students as control group. The experiment group was the group of students who are taught by using Quantum Thinker. The control group was the group of students who are taught by using conventional teaching. The researcher gave a test to experiment group and control group. The instrument of this research project was multiple-choice test which consisted of 40 items of descriptive text and research used each items has four options a, b, c, and d.
The data was analyzed by using t-test. The score of t-test was 2,691, While score of t-table was at 5% level significance and on the degree of 62 was 1,645. Thus, t-test was higher than t-table (2,691 > 1,645). According to result of data, hypothesis t-test was rejected, and hypothesis t-table was accepted.
The conclusion of this research gave positive effect towards reading ability the students who are taught by using Quantum Thinker Model than the students who are taught by using conventional teaching. According to the analysis, quantum Thinker gave positive effect towards students reading ability at the tenth grade students of MA n Kota Tegal. Then, the researcher suggests to the English teachers can use Quantum Thinker Model in teaching reading ability.
