THE EFFECT OF SMALL GROUP INTERACTION ON STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research to the Eight Graders Students of MTs Miftakhul Ulum Kedawon Brebes in Academic Year 2016/2017)

Key words: Small Group Interaction, Students’ Reading Achievement to the Eigth Graders of Secondary School.
The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using small group interaction on students’ reading achievement. Small group interaction is one of the technique to solve the problem together in teaching learning process. This technique make the students active and interactive with other groups.
The research hypothesis is The Use of Small Group Interaction technique is not effective to teach reading achievement to the eight graders students of MTs Miftakhul Ulum Kedawon Brebes in Academic Year 2016/2017.
In this research, the population is all of eigth graders students MTs Miftakhul Ulum Kedawon Brebes, which is totally 130 students in 5 classes (VIII A, B, C, D and E). The writer uses cluster random sampling with one group pre test post test design (experimental research). The total of sample is 26 students (VIII E). The experimental group is the group of students who are taught by using Small Group Interaction Technique. There are 8 meetings for treatment.
Based on the data analysis, the t-test is -13.170. The level significance is 5%. T-tabel on the degree of freedom 25 is 1,708. Thus, -t test is lower than t tabel (-13.170< 1.708). Based on the result, the hypothesis is rejected. It means that the Use Small Group Interaction is effective on Students’ Reading Achievement to the Eight Graders Students MTs Miftakhul Ulum Kedawon Brebes in Academic Year 2016/2017. Based on the research, small group interaction is effestive to teach reading achievement in recount text. The writer suggesting english teachers to use small group interaction to improve students’ reading achievement.
