THE EFFECT OF USING CONTENT AND LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING (CLIL) ON READING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Study in SMP N 3 Talang in the Academic Year of 2016/2017)

The objective of this Research Project is to find out the effect of using Content and Language Integrated Learning on the students reading achievement. Content and Language Integrated Learning is one of cooperative learning used in teaching reading.
The research hypothesis is Content and Language Integrated Learning gives positive effect toward students reading achievement. Content and Language Integrated Learning is applied to the second grade students of SMP N 3 Talang in Academic Year of 2016/2017.
In this Research Project, the population is the second grade students of Junior High School. Which is totally 265 students. The researcher uses cluster random sampling with two group design (Experiment Group and Control Group). The total sample are 60 students; 30 students as experiment group and 30 students as control group. The experiment group is the group of students who are taught by using Content and Language Integrated Learning. The control group is the group of students who are taught by using conventional method. After teaching for six meetings, the researcher gives a test to experiment group and control group. The instrument of this research project is multiple-choice test which consists of 30 items and research used each items has four options.
The researcher analysis data by using t-test, score of t-test is 5. While score of t-table is at 5% level significance and on the degree of 58 is 1,672. Thus, t-test is higher than t-table (5 > 1,672). According to result of data, hypothesis t-test is rejected, and hypothesis t-table is accepted.
The conclusion of this research, there is a positive effect towards reading achievement to the students who are taught by using Content and Language Integrated Learning than the students who are taught by using conventional method. According to the analysis, Content and Language Integrated Learning gives positive effect towards students reading achievement at the second grade students of SMP N 3 Talang. Then, the researcher suggest to the English teachers use Content and Language Integrated Learning to improve reading achievement of the students.
