The objective of this research is to know whether there is any positive effect of applying Read Ask Paraphrasing (RAP) Toward eight grade student’s reading achievement of junior high school.
The research is done by classifying the research sample into two group they are the Experiment group and Control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. Experiment group consists of students who are taught by using RAP Strategy and control group consists of students who are taught by using WTQ Strategy.
The population is given a test containing 40 multiple choice items. The writer uses multiple choice as the instrument to know the validity and reliability of the instrument. The writer gives a try out for students having the same competence with the sample.
The data of the research are gained from the result of writing test done by the samples of the research. The data analysis is tested using t-test. Based on the result of the data analysis t-test is 4,813 on the level of significance 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 1,645.
It shows that t-test is higher than 〖t-〗_table (4,813 > 1,645). It can be concluded that diary gives positive effect on the students reading skill in narrative text of the eight year students of State SMP Bustanul Ulum NU Jatirokeh in Junior Highschool in Academic Year 2016/2017.
Using RAP Strategy in teaching reading is recommended as an alternative way for the English teacher, especially for Junior High School teachers to attract the students ‘ interest and motivation in learning English. RAP Strategy, makes students reading material can be understood in detail, and it makes the students enjoy in the learning process. So, it can improve the students reading achievement.
The conclusion of this research is RAP (Read, Ask, Paraphrasing) Strategy gives positive effect on students’ reading achievement of the school grade of state Junior High School SMP Bustanul Ulum Jatirokeh in academic year 2016/2017.
