The objective of this research project is to find out the effect of spin a story writing prompt toward students’ writing narrative text achievement. Spin a story writing prompt is active learning strategy that is good for improving students’ writing ability which can help the students to reflect experiences they have had directly.
The research hypothesis of this reserach is the effect of spin a story writing prompt on the students’ writing narrative text achievement. Spin a story writing prompt is applied to the eighth students of SMP N 2 Tarub in the academic year 2016/2017.
In this reserach, the population is all of the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Tarub which is totally 216 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique with two group design (experimental group and control group). The total of the sample is 60 students, 30 students are as experiment group and 30 students are as control group. The experiment group is the group who are taughtby using spin a story writing prompt. The control group is the group who are not taught by using spin a story writing prompt. After teaching for eight meetings, the writer gives a writing test to both experiment and control group.
The data of this reserach is tested by using SPSS 22. According to the calculation, t value of paired sample test is 8,510, while t-table for degree of freedom (df) 29 is 2,045. Thus, t value is higher than t-table (8,510>2,045). According to the result of the data, the hypothesis of this research is accepted.
Based on the result of this reseach, it can be concluded that spin a story writing prompt gives positive effect on students’ writing narrative achievement in the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Tarub in the academic year 2016/2017. Then the writer suggests to Englis teachers to use spin a story writing prompt to improve students writing ability.
