Reading is one of important aspects in learning English. If the students have weaknesses in reading, they will be difficult to understand the text. One of strategy that can be used in teaching reading is the use of Picture Word Inductive Model Method. It is a method which is used to learn reading by their own understanding from picture, in concern with meaning of word, phrases, sentence and paragraph. Therefore the teacher will teach reading easily.
The purpose of this research is to find out the positive effect of Picture Word Inductive Model toward the students’ reading acievement at the seventh grade students at MTs IPTEK HUBBUL WATHON PAGERBARANG in the academic year 2016/2017.
Based on the problem and the logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is the application of Picture Word Inductive Model Method gives positive effect toward the students’ reading achievement at the seventh grade students at MTs IPTEK HUBBUL WATHON PAGERBARANG in the academic year 2016/2017.
In this research, the writer used quantitative approach, experimental research, and two groups design. The population of this research was all of the seventh Grade students of MTs IPTEK HUBBUL WATHON PAGERBARANG which consisted of 86 students. The writer used cluster random sampling technique to take samples of the research. The total of the samples were 44 students that were divided into two groups. The first group VII A was experiment group consisted of 22 students who were taught by applying Picture Word Inductive Model. The second group VII B was control group consisted of 22 students who were not taught by applying Picture Word Inductive Model.
The writer used multiple choice reading test with 4 options; A, B, C, D as the instrument of this research. The items of the test were 40 questions. The writer conducted try out test on 22 students to determine validity and reliability of the test. After the data had been analyzed by using t- test, the writer obtained 4,273 of the t-test result, whereas the t-table was 2,001 of significant level of df = 5%. The result of the t-test was higher than the t-table (4,273 > 2,001). It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected, since t-test score was higher than t-table, Picture Word Inductive Model gives a positive effect towards students’ reading achievement at the seventh grade at MTs IPTEK HUBBUL WATHON PAGERBARANG in academic year 2016/2017. The writer suggests to teachers that they should apply Picture Word Inductive Model in teaching reading for their students.
