THE EFFECT OF IMPLEMENTING STORY COMPLETION TECHNIQUE TOWARDS STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY. (An Experimental Research on Tenth Grade Student of SMK N 1 Slawi on the Academic Year of 2016/2017)

This research aimed to find out the implementing of Story Completion Technique in teaching English speaking and it gives the positive effect on students’ speaking ability. The writer uses quantitative research as the approach, experimental research as the type and two group design of the research. To find out the influence of this technique on students’ speaking ability, the writer applies a test for both groups. The result of the test will be compared to find out whether there are differences between the students who are taught by using Story Completion Technique or the other technique and to find out whether there was positive effect or not of using the Story Completion Technique through students’ speaking ability.
The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Slawi which consists of 15 classes. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the research by the guidance of the English Teacher. The sample of this research is 2 classes (X MM 1 and X RPL 2) consist of 60 students and divided into 2 groups. The students of X MM 1 as the experimental group and The students of X RPL 2 as the control group. Based on the data analysis, the t-test is 3.852 with degree of freedom is 58 and the level of significance (α) 5% = 1,645. It is absolutely said that t-test is higher than t-table (3.852>1,645), because of the t-test is higher than t-table, so the hypothesis of the research is accepted. From the result of data analysis, the writer concluded that the implementing of Story Completion Technique gave positive effect towards students’ speaking ability at the tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Slawi in the academic year 2016/2017 and the result of data analysis represented that there was significant difference in the speaking ability between students who treated and untreated by Story Completion Technique. The research proved that the Story Completion technique gave positive effect and improve the students’ speaking ability.
