The objective of this Research Project is to find out if there is any positive effect of using Numbered Heads Together towards students’ reading achievement of the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Pulosari in academic year of 2017/2018. The total of population is 180 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique with two group design. The total of sample is 60 students, 30 students are as experimental group and 30 students are as control group. The experimental group is the group of students who are taught by using Numbered Heads Together. The control group is the group of students who are taught without applying Numbered Heads Together. After teaching for six meetings, the writer gives a reading test to the sample. The test contains of 30 test items which should be done in 60 minutes. The test type is multiple choice with four options, A , B, C and D.
Based on the calculation, the score of t-test is 3,786. While the score of t-table at 5% level significance and the degree of 58 is 1,645 (3,786 > 1,645). So, the research hypothesis is accepted. The conclusion of this research is the students who are taught by Numbered Heads Together got better reading achievement than students who are not taught by Numbered Heads Together. Numbered Heads Together is proven to be one of the effective techniques to make students interested in learning reading so they are more active and enthusiastic in the class to improve their reading achievement.
