The purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of Clustering technique in teaching writing.
The population of this study were 334 students of class XI SMK N 1 Tegal .The researcher take the sample by using cluster random sampling. The researcher takes 2 classes from 11 classes as a sample. The sample is 60 students.
The researcher using type of experimental research with two group designs. There were 30 students as an experimental group and 30 students as a control group. The experimental group is a group that is taught by Clustering technique and the control group is a group that is not taught with the concept of thinking, speaking, writing.
The instrument using writing test form guided composition in the topic of natural phenomena. The test was given after both of groups received treatment for 7 meetings. This test was used to determine whether students who were taught clustering techniques got better writing achievement than students who were not taught clustering techniques. The writing test scored taught by the scoring rubric of Brown.
The researcher using the final test. Before the instrument is tested to the experimental class and control class, the researcher measure the sample equality. The goal is to know the equal ability both of class.
Researchers analyzed data using t-test. Based on the calculation, the result of t-hit value is 4.801 while the t-table value at 5% significance level and degrees of freedom (58) is 1.672. The result of t-count value is greater than t-table (4,801> 1,672) so H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.
It can be concluded that Clustering technique gives positive effect to the writing skill of class XI students in SMK N 1 Tegal. Therefore, the researcher suggest English teachers to apply Clustering techniques in English learning process and they need to motivate their students in learning writing to make learning writing more fun. Furthermore, teachers should give their students the task and evaluation of more writing so that they are accustomed to writing and developing ideas or ideas in a reading theme.
