THE EFFECT OF MIX FREEZE GROUP TOWARD STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study of The Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Brebes in the Academic Year of 2017/2018)

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is significant difference effect of using Mix Freeze Group strategy on the eighth grade students’ vocabulary achievement of Junior High School.
The population of this research is all of the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 2 Brebes in the academic year of 2017/2018. The number of population is 304 students which is divided into 8 classes. This research is conducted by using two group Post-test only design. The first group is called experimental group taught by using Mix Freeze Group strategy, while the second group is called control group not taught by using Mix Freeze Group strategy. Each group of samples consists of 30 students by using cluster random sampling.
The instrument used in this research is vocabulary test. It’s conducted after the two groups get treatment for 7 meetings. The test is carried out to find out whether students who are taught by using Mix Freeze Group strategy get better vocabulary achievement than students who are not taught by using Mix Freeze Group strategy.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test to find out whether the research hypothesis is accepted or not. Based on the calculation, the t-ratio is 5.933. It is consulted with t-table on the significant level (α) of 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 58. The t-table obtained is 1.645. It proves that t-ratio is higher than t-table (5.933 > 1.645), so the hypothesis of the research is accepted. The conclusion of this research is that Mix Freeze Group strategy gives a significant difference effect on the vocabulary achievement students who are taught by using Mix Freeze Group strategy.
The writer recommends for the English teachers to use Mix Freeze Group strategy to develop students’ vocabulary achievement. Since English teacher easily gets the students attention to learn English in fun way. Therefore, it can improve students’ vocabulary achievement.
