THE EFFECT OF APPLYING TEAM ACCERELATED INSTRUCTION (TAI) ON READING COMPREHENSION OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Study in the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK N 1 Dukuhturi in the Academic Year 2017/2018)

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI) in teaching reading toward the eleventh grade students of SMK N 1 Dukuhturi in the academic year 2017/2018.
The population of this research is the eleventh grade students at SMK N 1 Dukuhturi in the academic year of 2017/2018. The number of population is 575 students from 16 classes. This research is conducted by using two group design; the first group is called experimental group who is taught by using Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI) and control group is a group which is not taught by Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI). The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling. Each group of samples consists of 30 students. The total of sample was 60 students.
In this research the writer used a reading test of multiple choice as the instrument of the research which consist of 50 items. The test is conducted after the two groups get treatment for eight meetings of treatment and final test to both of the groups. Before giving treatment, the writer gives a try out to test the validity and reliability of the instrument.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test in order to find out wheter the research hypothesis is accepted or not. Based on the calculation, the t-ratio is 3,300. meanwhile the score of t-table on the significant level 5% and tge degree of freedom 58 is 1,672. It proves that t-ratio is higher than t-table (3,300 > 1,672), so the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is that students who are taught by using Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI) get better reading comprehrension than students who are not taught by Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI). Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI) is proven to be one of the effective method to make students interested in learning reading. It also students are able to work teams and discussions well. The students enjoyed and have motivation in reading, so it prevents the students from feeling bored to found important information in the text.
English teachers are suggested to apply Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI) is more effective to improve students reading comprehension, who are taught by using Team Accerelated Instruction (TAI)
