Key words: Picture Word Inductive Model, Diglot-Weave Technique, Students’ Vocabulary Achievement.
The objective of this Research Project is to find out which technique is more effective to be used in learning vocabulary between the PWIM and the Diglot-Weave technique. The research hypothesis are; There is not a significant difference on students’ vocabulary achievement between studentswho are taught by using PWIM technique and those who are taught by using the Diglot-Weave technique (H0), The students’ vocabulary achievement who are taught by using PWIM is better than those who are taught by using the Diglot-Weave technique (Ha1), and The students’ vocabulary achievement who are taught by using Diglot-Weave is better than those who are taught by using PWIM (Ha2). Both techniques are applied to the first-grade students of SMP N 2 Sragi in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.
This research is an experimental research which uses two group post-test only design. The population of this research is 260 students of SMP N 2 Sragi. The sample is 60 students taken by cluster random sampling and divided into two groups. The experimental group consists of 30 students who are taught by using PWIM technique, and the control group consists of 30 students who are taught by using Diglot-weave technique. The instrument of the research is a vocabulary test consisted of 40 multiple choices.
The data is tested by t-test formula. Score of t-test is 2,575. While score of t-table with 5% significant leveland on the degree of freedom 58 is 1,672. Thus, t-test is higher than t-table (2,575> 1,672). According to the result of data, the null hypothesis (H0) is refused and the alternative hypothesis (Ha1) is accepted. It means that Picture Word Inductive Model is more effective than the Diglot-Weave technique. Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) is recommended for English teacher to improve the students’ vocabulary achievement.
