Key Word : ERRQ Strategy. Students Reading Achievement
In reading process the readers not only read but also comprehend the text to get some information. In the fact many of students that still lazy to read the text. It also happens at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 13 Tegal. The writer found the reasons why they lazy in reading process, because of they are bored during the lesson so they needed the technique teaching such as ERRQ strategy. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using ERRQ Strategy on students’ reading achievement. The hypothesis of the research are, as follows: H1: there is positive effect of using ERRQ Strategy on students’ reading achievement of the seventh grade students’ of SMP N 13 Tegal. H0: there is no positive effect of using ERRQ strategy on students’ reading achievement of the seventh grade students’ of SMP N 13 Tegal in the academic year 2017/2018.
ERRQ strategy is a comprehension strategy that we learn in reading. This strategy helps students organize what they know and what they have learned from the text. Using ERRQ strategy will help the students to read and to get the main idea with their own words about information that they get from the text.
The research is done by classifying sample into two groups, they are the Experiment and Control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. They are divided into two groups. Group one is experiment group consisting of students who are taught by using ERRQ Strategy and group two is control group consisting of students who are taught without using ERRQ Strategy. The sample is given a test containing 50 multiple choice items. The writer uses external validity and spirit half method Sperman-Brown formula to know the validity and reliability of the instrument. The writer gives a try out for students having the same competence with the sample. Data analysis of the research is tested by using t-test. The result of computing t-test value is 3.556. based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level signiticant of 5% t-table is 1.672, it shows that t-test is higher than t-table (3.556>1.672). It means that there is significant difference of reading achievement between the students who are taught by using ERRQ Strategy and the students who are taught without using ERRQ Strategy.
