THE EFFECT OF APPLYING PAVE (PREDICT, ASSOCIATE, VERIFY, EVALUATE) STRATEGY ON VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Research in SMPN 1 Suradadi in theAcademic Year of 2017/2018)

The objective of this study is to find out whether there is a significant difference on students’ achievement taught by using PAVE strategy and who were taught by using discovery learning method of the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 1 Suradadi in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.
.This research is an experimental research which uses Two-Group design post test only. The population of this research is all of the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Suradadi, which is totally 276 students. The writer takes the sample by using cluster random sampling. There are 9 classes in Junior High School 1 Suradadi. The writer takes 2 of 9 classes as a sample. The total of sample are 60 students. 30 students are as experiment group and 30 students are as the control group. The experiment group is the group of student who are taught by using PAVE strategy. The control group is the group of students who are taught by using Discovery Learning as the method that usually used.
In this research, the writer uses a vocabulary test of multiple choice as the instrument of the research which consist of 50 itemswith four options; A, B, C and D. The test was try out and post test to see the improvement of the students’ vocabularies achievement. In collecting the primary data, the writer carried out eight meetings of treatment and post test to both of the groups. Before giving treatment, the writer gives a try out to test the validity and reliability of the instrument.
The writer analyze data by using a t-testin order to find out whether the research hypothesis is accepted or not. Based on the calculation, the t-ratio is 5, 389.It is consulted with t-table on the significant level (α) of 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 58. The t-table obtained is 1.672. It proves that t-ratio is higher than t-table (5, 389> 1.672), so the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
Based on the result of data analysis, it can be conclude that there is a significantdifference on students’ achievement taught by using PAVE strategy and who were taught by using discovery learning method of the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 1 Suradadi in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.
Then, the writer suggests to the English teachers use PAVE strategy to improve students’ vocabulary achievement.
