The objective of this research is tofind out whetherthere is any significant difference between the eighth grade students who are taught by using Sensitizing technique and who are not taught by using Sensitizing technique at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year 2017/2018.
Based on the review of related theories, hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows: there is any significant difference between the eighth grade students who are taught by using sensitizing technique and who are not taught by using sensitizing technique.
The Population of this research is the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year of 2017/2018 which is totally 240 students. Based on the Population, the writer took 60 students as the sample taken by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer divided the sample into two groups. The first group is experimental group (taught by applying sensitizing technique) and the second group is control group (without taught by applying sensitizing technique).
In collecting data, the writer used reading test as the instrument of the research. The type of the test is multiple choice test with five options. To know the validity of the instrument, the writer tried out the instrument by giving a test to 30 students.
The data is tested by using t-test formula. Based on the result of this calculation, it shows that the value of t-test is 4,785 and the t-table is 1,672 at the 5% significant level and degree of freedom (df) 58. It shows that t-test is higher than t-table (4,785 >1,672). It can be concluded that the use of Sensitizing Technique give a positive effect toward students’ reading achievement of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year of 2017/2018.
