THE EFFECT OF APPLYING ANAGRAM TECHNIQUE TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research at the Eighth Graders in SMP Negeri 1 Kota Tegal in the Academic Year of 2017/2018)

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of Anagram technique Towarda Students’ Vocabulary Achievement at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year of 2017/2018.
The population of this research is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year of 2017/2018. The total population was 240 students consisting of 8 classes. Based on total of the population, the writer took 60 students as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer conducted experimental research with two group design. The first group is experimental group (taught by applying Anagram technique) and the second group is control group (taught without by applying Anagram technique).
In collecting data, the writer used vocabulary test as the instrument of the test in this research. The instrument consisting of 50 items multiple choices in 80 minutes. Then, 40 valid test items are used in pre-test and post-test for the sample of research.
The data analysis was calculated by using t-test formula. Based on the result of this calculation, show that the value of t-test was 2,782 with the t-table is 1,672 at the 5% significant level and degree of freedom (df) 58. It shows that t-test was higher than t-table (2,782 > 1,672). It can be concluded that Anagram technique gives positive effect toward students’ vocabulary achievement of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Kota Tegal. Therefore, the writer suggests English teacher to use Anagram technique in learning process.
