The objective of this research project is to find out the effect of Instructional Predicting Strategy on the students’ reading comprehension ability. Instructional Predicitng is one of strategies which can used in teaching reading comprehension.
The research hypotheses are Instructional Predicting Strategy is effective on the students’ reading comprehension ability and there is significant differnce between the students who are taught by Instructional Predicting Stategy than those who are not taught by Instructional Predicting Strategy. Instructional Predicting Strategy is applied to the eleventh graders of SMK Ma’arif NU Talang in the academic year of 2016/2017.
In this research project, the population is the eleventh graders of SMK Ma’arif NU Talang. Which is totaly 60 students. The writer divides sampling with two group design (Experiment Group and Control Group). The total sample are 60 students; 30 students as experiment group and 30 students as control group. The experiment group is the group of students who are taught by Instructional Predicting Strategy. The control group is the group of students who are taught by conventional teaching. After teaching for eight meetings, the writer gives a test to experiment group and control group. The instrument of this research project is multiple-choice test which consists of 40 items and each items has four options.
The writer analyzes data by using IBM SPSS Statistic 22, score of t-test in independent sample t test is 8,589, while score of t-table at 5% level significance and on the degree of 58 is 1,672. Thus, t-test is higher than t-table (8,589 > 1,672). According to result of data, null hypothesis 1 (H01) is rejected, and research hypothesis (Hobservation) is accepted. The score of t-test in paired sample t test is -6,322, while score of t-table at 5% level significance and on the degree of 58 is 1,672. Thus, t-test is lower than t-table (-6,322 < 1,672). According to the result of data, null hypothesis 2 (H02) is rejected and research hypothesis (Hobservation) is accepted.
The conclusion of this research are Instructional Predicting Strategy is effective on students’ reading comprehension ability at the eleventh graders of SMK Ma’arif NU Talang in the academic year of 2016/2017 and there is significant difference between the students who are taught by Instructional Predicting Strategy than those who are not taught by Instructional Predicting Strategy.
