THE EFFECT OF USING WORD SQUARE METHOD IN TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY TO THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ( An Experimental Research of the Eight Grade Student of Junior High School at MTs Al-Hasaniyyah Larangan in Academic Year of 2016/2017)

There are some problems appeared in teaching vocabulary. The problems happen because the English material is not interesting for students, the limited time and the equipment, the technique of delivering materials is not suitable or interesting, Word Square Method gives the students new way to get learning material.
The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using Word Square Method in Teaching of English Vocabulary for Eight Graders Students of Junior High School at MTs Al-hasaniyyah Larangan in Academic Year of 2016/2017. The research hypothesis is the use Word Square Method gives a positive effect on students’ vocabulary achievement.
This research is experimental. In conducting the research, the writer used two group design. Population of this research is 130 students of the second grade of MTs Al-Hasaniyyah Larangan. The cluster random sampling technique is used to take the sample. The sample consisting of 60 students that is divide into two groups. Sample 1 as group 1 consisting of 30 students who are taught by using Word Square and sample 2 as group 2 consisting of 30 students who are not taught by using Word Square Method. Strategy in this research, the writer used multiple choices test as the instrument of the research which consist of 40 items.
Based on the result of data analysis, the score of t-table at 5% level of significances is 2.043. While t-ratio is 2,089. So, t-ratio is higher than t-table (2,089>2,043). According to this calculation, the research hypothesis of this research is accepted. It means that there is significant difference in vocabulary achievement between the students who are taught by using Word Square Method and those who are not taught by Word Square Method.
The conclusion of this research is “Students who are taught by using Word Square Method got better achievement than those who are not taught by Word Square Method in the teaching vocabulary of the eighth grade students of MTs Al-Hasaniyyah Larangan.
