The objective of the study is to know whether there is positive effect of the strong self concept toward the speaking achievement or not of the second grade students of SMP N 13 Tegal, the academic year 2009/ 2010.
Based on the theories, the hypothesis of this study is proposed as followed. There is positive effect of the strong self concept toward the speaking achievement of the second grade students of SMP N 13 Tegal in the academic 2009/ 2010.
The population of this research is the second grade students of SMP N 13 Tegal, the total number of them is 235 students. This research took 40 students for the sample. They were divided into two groups which consist of 20 students each.
The data of this research was taken from the English speaking test instrument of the research and the questioner.
The data analysis technique used is t-test with the level of significance 0,5% and with degree of freedom 38, the result of t-test is 2,209 and t-table 1,725. the hypothesis is accepted because the result of t-test is bigger than t-table (2,209> 1,725).
The final result of the research of shows that there is significant different the speaking achievement between the students who have strong self concept and the students who have weak self concept. Based on the result the conclusion of this research is there is positive effect of the application English achievement of the second grade students of SMP N 13 Tegal in the academic year 2009/ 2010.
