The objective of this research is to get information whether there is or there is no correlation between grammatical ability and the ability to translate of the 8th year, students in semester 2nd of the SMP Muhammadiyah Slawi Kabupaten Tegal in the academic year of 2008/2009.
The hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows :
"There is correlation between grammatical ability and the ability to translate of the 8th year students, in semester 2nd of the SMP Muhammadiyah Slawi Kabupaten Tegal in the academic year of 2008/2009.."
This research is conducted to 85 students taken as sample from a population of 173 students. The sample is choosen by using cluster random sampling technique.
The data analysis of this research is tested by using correlation of product moment test, to test the correlation between grammatical ability and the ability to translate.
On degree of significance of five percent obtained information that there is correlation between grammatical ability and the ability to translate of the 8th year students, in semester 2nd of the SMP Muhammadiyah Slawi Kabupaten Tegal in the academic year of 2008/2009.. This matter is shown with the result of the test. The correlation obtained by value rXY = 0,361, while value r tables of product moment by N = 85 and a = 5% obtained rtabel = 0,213. As according to criterion of hypothesis acceptance if rXY > rtabel, hence above calculation show the rXY > rtabel, so there is correlation between grammatical ability and the ability to translate of the 8th year, semester 2nd of the SMP Muhammadiyah Slawi Kabupaten Tegal in the academic year of 2008/2009.
