Action research is characterized systematic inquiry that is collective, collaborative, self reflective, critical, and undertaken by the participants of the inquiry. The goals of such research are the understanding of practise and the articulation of rationale philosophy of practise in order to improve practise (Mc Cuthheab and Jung, 1990: 148).
The objective of using role playing in this classroom action research gives motivation for the students in learning speaking skill in English and it could increase the student's speaking skill at the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Pulogading 01.
Based on theories and the frame of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows "Role play is regarded as affective technique in teaching speaking to be children.
The population and sample of this research are the fifth year students of SDN Pulogading 01 Bulakamba in academic year 2009/2010. The writer takes 35 students, the class consists of 15 male students and 20 female students. In this research, all of the population is used as the sample.
The data anisalysis method of this research the score rubric in each cycle by using presentation technique.
In the pre test, the students average score is 63, in the first cycle the students average score is 74 and the students average score the second cycle is 75.
The writer concludes that "there is positive increase of the students speaking skill when in teaching learning process teacher uses role play technique. Role play is related to the children's characteristic because it has varieties of experience in to classroom for the children, it's very useful for the children to learn. They also can interact and socialize with their friend. Role play is fun activity and the children can learn how to interact in certain situation and its help shy children to pretend as another person.
