The purpose of the research is to find out information about the effectiveness of Total Physical Response Method in teaching vocabulary to the first grade students.
Based on the theories and frame of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows :
"There is a difference of English vocabulary achievement of the first year students between those who are taught by using Total Physical Response Method and those who are taught by using Grammar Translation Method".
The population of this research is the first level students of Insan Cendekia Course Academic Year 2008/2009. the total of them is 90 where as the sample of this research is taken at random. It consists of 30 students who are taught by using Total Physical Method and 30 students taught by Grammar Translation Method in the learning process.
The data of this research are tasted by using t-test analysis techniques. The result of the test shows that on degree of significance of one percent, it shows 2,6660 in the t-table and the result t-test is 3,58 so it could be said that t-test is higher than t-table. So Ho is refused and Hi is accepted.
Thus, it can be concluded that the English vocabulary teaching by using Total Physical Response Method is better than English Vocabulary Teaching by using Grammar Translation Method of the first grade students of Insan Cendekia Course Academic 2008/2009.
