The aim of the research is to know the Linguistic errors in The English writing which are made by the tenth grade students in senior high school.
The population in this research is the tenth grade students of SMA Al Irsyad, in academic year 2008/2009. The number of population are 140 students and the samples are 60 students. The sample of this research is taken by using random sampling technique.
The data is obtained from an essay test. The test consists of 5 numbers. Based on the data analysis, the writer finds four Linguistic errors which are made by students in their writing. The Linguistic errors are classified into capitalization, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
The result of data analysis shows that the Linguistic errors which are made by students are 13, 3 % in concern with the capitalization, 40 % in concern with the punctuation, 0 % in concern with the spelling, and 75 % in concern with the grammar.
It could be concluded that grammar is the dominant linguistic errors made by the students in their writing.
Based on the fact, the writer suggests the English teachers to give students much explanation how to write in English and the students should have much more practice to make composition in English language.
