Teaching English to children is more than merely teaching the language. The social and cognitive development of students are also taken in account. Therefore teaching learning process should be meaningful, involving and interesting. For full fill that aspect, the teacher provides media of teaching learning process. It one of cartoon film.
Action research is characterized as systematic inquiry that is collective, collaborative, self reflective, critical, and undertaken by the participants of the inquiry. "The goals of such research are the understanding of practice and the articulation of a rationale or philosophy of practice in order to improve practice" (Mc Cutchean and Jung, 1990 : 148).
The objective of this classroom action research gives information about the using cartoon film media of English teaching to improve listening skill for the fifth grade student of SD Negeri Kedunguter 02 Brebes.
Based on the theoretical foundation and frame of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is the teaching learning process by a using cartoon film estimated will cause student listening achievement better.
The population and sample of this research are the fifth year students of SD Negeri Kedunguter 02 Brebes district Brebes regency in academic year 2009/2010. The writer takes 49 students, the class consists of 27 male students and 22 female students.
There are two cycles in this classroom action research. The teacher conducts pre test, before cycle 1.
The data analysis method of this research is English learning result test. The researcher conducts pre test and test after every cycle finish. The pre test, students get average score is 57,3 in the first cycle students average score is 64,2 and the second cycle the students got average score is 72,6. It proved that of this research hypothesis is true.
The writer concludes that "the teaching learning process using cartoon film media cause students listening achievement better." The cartoon film media gives increasing or develop an organized thinking and it happens continually through motion picture.
