The study investigates the effectiveness of the oral approach on teaching English Vocabulary to the eight grade students of junior high school 3 Talang Tegal Regency. In the oral approach, speech is the foundation of all language. Teachers teach orally and obtain an oral response. Gradually, it is hoped that students become familiar with the spoken English and it can help them to remember the words.
The population of this research is all of the eight grade students of junior high school 3 Talang Tegal Regency, Academic Year 2009/2010, with the total population consists of 243 students. The writer uses random sampling technique to choose the sample of study. The total of the samples is 60 students, and the writer divides into two groups, there are 30 students who are taught by using oral approach as the experiment group (I) and 30 students who are not taught by using oral approach as control group (II).
Based on the theory and logical framework the research hypothesis is proposed as follows "There is positive effect of using an oral approach in teaching English vocabulary to the eight-grade students of junior high 3 Talang Tegal Regency in the Academic Year 2009/2010".
The writer uses a written test as the instrument of the research. The test consists of 30 items in multiple choice types with four options. The test needs 45 minutes to do. To know the validity and the reliability of the instrument, the writer had tried out by giving a test to 30 students having the same competence with the sample of study.
The result of descriptive analysis shows that on the level of significance five percent (5%) and degree of freedom 58, the result of t-test is 6,666 and t-table 2,000, so the result of t-test is higher than the t-table (6,666 >2,000).
Thus the conclusion of the research is "The using of an oral approach is effective on Teaching English Vocabulary to the eight grade students of SMP N 3 Talang Tegal Regency in the Academic Year 2009/2010".
