The objective of this research is to know whether, there is a positive effect of Applying Dictogloss teaching strategy toward students' writing achievement on the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Pemalang in Academic year 2009/2010.
Based on the review of related literature and logical frame work, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows : "there is a positive effect of applying dictogloss teaching strategy toward Students writing Achievement on the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Pemalang in academic year 2009/2010".
The population of the research is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Pemalang with total number is 206 students. To collect the data, the writer take 60 students from the population as the sample by using random sampling technique in order to make every member of the population has the same chance to be sample. The writer uses two-group design: one group is experimental group and the other is control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The experimental group is taught by dictogloss teaching strategy, whereas the control group is taught by grammar translation method teaching strategy. Then, both of them are given the same writing test.
The writer uses essay test as the instrument of the research. The essay test consists of 20 test items. The students do the test in 90 minutes, to know the validity and reliability of the test, the writer try out the instrument by giving test to 30 students who have the same competence as the samples of research.
The data of this research is gained from writing test that is given to the sample of this research, to analyze the data, the writer uses t-test to know the difference between the two groups. Based on the result of the data analysis, t-ratio is 2,682 with degree freedom (df) 58 and the level of significance (?) 5%, and the t-table is 2,000. It means that t-ratio is higher than t-table (2,682 > 2,000). It can be conclude that the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
