The objective of this research is to know whether the influence of using "C n' S English Teen Magazine" on student reading achievement faced by eleventh grade students of senior High School.
The population of this research is all the eleventh grade students in the second semester of SMA N 5 Tegal in Academic year 2009/ 2010, the total number of the students is 204. The writer uses random sampling technique, takes 60 students as the samples. They are classified into two groups, group I (30 students) as experiment class and group II (30 students) as control class.
In reading class, students often feel bored and unenthusiastic when they usually read text from their text books. Student's boredom and unenthusiasm can be handled by using English magazine as an alternative material besides the available text books and can provide the activity that is different from their routine. Reading English magazine article can make learning more interesting, because this is real and actual. Magazine has variety of topics, so they are very appropriate for reading materials.
Based on the background and theoretical background, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows: "The use of "C n' S English Magazine" positively will affect the students reading achievement", in other word the students who are taught by using C 'n S English Magazine will get better reading achievement than those students who are taught without English Magazine.
The data of the research are obtained by using documentation technique and test as the instruments. To know the validity and the reliability of the test instrument, the writer has given a try out test to other 30 students who have the same competence with the samples of this research.
The data analysis of the research is proposed by using t-test. From the result of the analysis shows that t-ratio is 5,317 whereas t-table is 2,576 at the significant level 5%. So, the result of t-ratio is higher than t-table (5,317 > 2,576).
It can be concluded that the teaching with English Magazine will produce better student's achievement of reading material than those students who were taught without English Magazine.
From this research the teacher are suggested to increase the student interest in learning English especially to reading skills.
